Freedom & Democracy For The People Of Egypt,The Middle East, and North Africa!

I have nothing but respect for the people of Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Algeria, Syria, and Sudan. For the citizens of any country who have for decades suffered under oppressive regimes to come together and peacefully demand their right to rule themselves - without the prompting of any leader or political party - is truly unprecedented and reassuring. My thoughts are with these people, and I hope that the 21st century ushers in an era in which truly democratic societies are allowed to flourish.

To those like John McCain who label this phenomenon "a virus" and call for these revolutions to be quashed: you have surrendered pretense to any iota of credibility you were ever suspected to have (not by me though). To Barack and Hillary: The audacity of your rhetoric - constantly weakening your prior stances to compliment what side seems to be winning, without ever taking a firm stand for the right of the Egyptian people to freedom and democracy, is repulsive. Also: Butt out! Do not dare meddle in this situation. Your precious buzzword "Democracy" means that the people make their own decisions and rule themselves - not that the people choose a regime within the bounds of what is approved for them by the government of another nation. They clearly do not want to be ruled by their current President, Vice President, Prime Minister, or military. And why should they? These are members of the regime that are complicit in the oppression of the people and the perpetrators of the brutality that has been inflicted upon the peaceful protestors in Cairo. While you're at it, why not bring our troops home to their families? Haven't you had enough of un-democratically forcing "Democracy" down the throats of other nations? Or have we not killed enough brown people yet?

To America: Take a look at what is happening... in the Arab world of all places! Don't YOU think it's time we governed OURSELVES?

Theism? Bleh.

Atheists, agnostics, & other non-religious people: It's time to come out of the closet. We can no longer allow this culture to dismiss us. Things are getting too weird, especially here in America, and especially regarding our government. The chair of the House Environment & Economy Subcommittee has quoted the Bible to prove that global warming is not a threat. Fanatics in middle America are organizing, mobilizing & influencing politics much better than the other half of the country, who are irreligious or sensible people of faith. We can't be marginalized any longer. Say that you are what you are & what you believe. Show them we're all here and that we're not demons. Let the theists you know how a culture that assumes the existence of (and belief in) an invisible deity affects you.

I'll be doing a some recent material. I haven't seen the space or the P.A. yet so I haven't decided whether my set will be acoustic or electric. I'll figure it out this week; either way, I'll probably bring the drums. I invite the universe to join me in song.

For reals.

CG, Ttotals, Red Mouth at Betty's Nashville, TN (4/24/10)

These guys play heavy, droning psychedelic art-punk influenced by the Velvet Underground, Spacemen 3, Pussy Galore, and Dead C. I'm not sure if they're a two- or three-piece at the moment, but there will definitely be at least one down-tuned guitar, some primal drumming, and stoney sound effects. The members were formerly affiliated with another group called Heathern Haints, who have an amazing 12". Ttotals just released their debut EP in a 3" mini-CD format. The music is really great, and I encourage you all to come pick it up. Just don't put it in your car CD slot.

Red Mouth is Eric Gebhardt from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He plays a minimalistic form of roots music that's informed by the Stooges, Son House, Roger Miller, Tom Waits, the Rolling Stones, and Nick Cave. He's playing solo, but don't expect open mic fodder. This shouting and stomping punk rock blues. Red's heading over to Europe to tour next month, so help him out by purchasing one of this three incredible albums.

I'm finally crawling out of my burrow to grace the world with another show. We'll see how it goes! I'll be doing a one-man-band routine with a load of new material, in case you haven't seen my revamped solo show yet. I personally dig Eno, Neil Young, Big Star, XTC, Captain Beefheart, and Cocteau Twins, but you should probably ask Red Mouth or Ttotals what I actually sound like.
I hope to see you there. You meaning everyone.
